Patient Presentation

A 30-49-year-old Male presented with Numbness, Tingling, Burning, Nerve pain (such as shooting pain, electric shock pain) at Feet, Legs, Arms for Persistent (≥3 months).

Presenting Complaint

He attebd church regularly and every time during praise and worship time, he is unable to stand for long as his left leg and feet will start to get numb, tingling effect and end up burning sensation. He can’t stand up straight.

Actions Taken

Provided counselling on symptom management, Recommended vitamins or supplements, Recommended OTC treatment, Advised medical consultation, Identified potential risk factors, Provided lifestyle guidance

Outcome / Next steps

Patient planned to monitor symptoms, Patient agreed to seek medical advice, Follow-up recommended at pharmacy, Symptoms appeared manageable, Other – Patient recommended to seek medical advice from an orthopaedic surgeon on his back condition.I gave him Mecobin Plus ALA to help with his nerve condition. Advice to loose weight by controlling his diet and do some simple exercise to loose some weight. Reduce his Badminton from 5 times a week to 3 times, every other day or less. Orthopaedic surgen gave him Pregabalin 75mg OD and Anarax OD. He is also on Prednisolone 10mg TDS for one week. Might need to do MRI in the future.

Key learning / Clinical insight

He is asking if his condition is better on medication alone or should immediately go for surgery ? Because it seems to be having a slip disc. Is medication alone is the best choise now? Or will the long term use of medication cause his condition to get worse?
